Rolling, rolling, rolling

Since I've had quite enough of running in the snow, I went to the Y this afternoon and put in 3.5 miles on the treadmill. While in the 'mill I ran 5K in 27:33. The extra .4 miles was .2 warm up and .2 cool down. My fastest 5K time ever! Yeah, yeah, it was on a treadmill. I'm going to celebrate anyway. I'm all about celebrating the small victories on the way to the big ones. The most important thing was that my knee felt completely normal even after pushing it a little.

The big brown truck dropped off a package for me today. My foam roller arrived. Woot! Uhhh...now what? So, I went in search of some samples of what to do with the foam roller. I found this video which is entertaining in a slightly cheesy way. I enjoyed it though and got some good ideas from it:

What is your favorite thing to do with the foam roller? How often do you use it?

I use it probably 2-3 times a week, depending on if I remember it. I just got it about a month ago. I am using it to roll my IT band, as a preventative measure (I'm also doing some XT to strengthen because I don't want to have knee or IT band trouble). I also use it to massage my back and glutes.

I hear you Mike. I'm so anti the treadmill, but I am anti this winter even more.

Nice job on the dreadmill. I use the foam roller about 2x's/week depending on distance and if my IT band feels tight and stretching just doesn't work.

That's awesome about your foam roller. I don't have one but I hear they're great.
