Friday Randomness

Friday randomness in handy bullet form:

  • Last night I did my second speed workout ever.  It went way better than the first one a week ago.  I'll be curious to see what happens to my easy effort paces after a month or so.
  • I'm racing tonight with my eldest daughter.  It'll be more of a fun run than a PR effort.  I'm looking forward to running through the Christmas light displays and then dinner afterwards with my daughter.
  • Winter is doing its best to arrive in northern Michigan.  Had a little snow this past week.  We get a reprieve this weekend and then it's back to wintery weather next week.
  • Rifle deer season has opened so it's time to make sure I wear orange when I go out in the woods.  I don't want to be mistaken for a deer.
  • Somehow I need to get 17 miles in between now and Sunday night to stay on my plan.  I have tons of stuff scheduled this weekend.  Hopefully I can get it all in.  3.1 tonight, 4-ish on Saturday and then 10 on Sunday should do it.
  • Next week is a formal cutback week.  I've never really built those in before.  I figured it was time.

Any weekend plans?  Anyone racing?  Doing a fun run or Turkey Trot?

No racing. Planning to run Sunday, normal long run, then I'm cutting back for the holiday week, but still running. My favorite morning to run is Thanksgiving. It's quite and still and I'm reminded to give thanks for the gift that running is in my life. :)

Doing my first ever turkey trot on Thanksgiving (obviously :P) and I'm very excited for it! Just started with running as my main exercise this past week, and I've run 15-- I think it might stick this time, and I'm hoping to sign up for a 5k sometime in the near future!

Ive never really done a concious speed workout but often do fartleks.. Fun fun!! I like seeing how fast Im capable of running and hope to one day run those paces without as much effort ;)
Be safe in the woods!! Though I thought experienced hunters waited for a perfect shot and could actually see the deer. No racing plans or turkey trot for me.

Khourt - 99% of the hunters I encounter are exactly what you describe. They wait for the right shot. However, there's always a couple that shoot at sounds or movement without identifying the target. Dingbats.

Haus Frau Keighley - Hope the Turkey Trot goes well!

Jen - Enjoy your quiet run Thursday morning.

Speedwork, when done right, will reap great rewards very quickly. I did them over the summer and PR'd every distance I ran (5k, 10k, 10 mile and HM). Enjoy!
